I have always thought it would be cool to call yourself an
Ironman. Alas, given my level of
interest and ability in endurance activities, I had always assumed that is just
for more ambitious and fit people. Less then a year and a half ago, I had never
competed in an organized endurance event (post high school). I was 40lbs
overweight and could not run 2 miles continuously. My older brother and his girlfriend (now wife) where going
to run a 7k and asked me to join them. My wife and I signed up and I figured I
better start training. Training was slow at first, but once I started to build
a little stamina and my legs got use to running, it started to get enjoyable! I
finished the 7k in a good time (for me) and didn’t even have to stop and walk
once! After that Greg asked me to do a sprint triathlon. My first thought was
that is a little out of my league. But, I figured I should start saying yes to more things, so in
2014 I signed up for my first triathlon!
This summer Greg and I are signed up for 3 more sprint
triathlons and 1 Olympic distance triathlon in August.
Our goal is to complete the Ironman 70.3 in Racine WI in
2016 & a full Ironman (location yet to be determined) in 2017!
We will chronicle our journey to this goal here.
Thanks for reading.
